The Tradewinds Resort located in lovely St. Pete Beach, Florida is the optimal hotel to host this theme (www.justletgo.com). Tradewinds boasts a double Palm Tree rating in Florida’s prestigious rating for sustainability in lodging. The resort and its location offer a little something for everyone, including beachfront access, a public trolley system to restaurants and shopping, multiple pools and hot tubs and entertainment activities such as paddle boats, miniature golf and a daytime Kids camp.
In addition to the typical Regional Operational meetings, committee chair training and social events, there will be other events that are new to Region XII and meant to assist ASHRAE members in receiving their full benefits of membership and participation. First, we’d like to get our attendees involved in a Sustainability project. This is meant to be a long lasting project promoting the direction of ASHRAE and its goal toward Net Zero Energy Buildings. The Sustainability Committee is looking for volunteers and ideas, please contact: Philippe Jean (pjean@stanweaver.com). Next, we want your involvement in selecting topics for Technical Education. As many of you are aware, Florida’s Board of Professional Engineers has become particular about courses offered. Here’s where you can participate – let US know what YOU want to learn. The CRC committee will work with ASHRAE and the FBPE to get you those valuable CEUs on topics you find relevant. Once again, please contact Philippe Jean (pjean@stanweaver.com) with suggestions.
Please also take note to our sponsors. These are the companies that support ASHRAE! Once again, I may be preaching to the choir, but companies that are willing to support ASHRAE are companies that understand the significance of energy efficiency, performance and technology. ASHRAE is not only leading, but offering solutions to sustainability. Our members and sponsoring firms are being asked to actively participate in the nation’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30%. If you are interested in sponsoring a CRC that hosts 18 chapters and various sections, please contact Debie Horsey (dhorsey@carrollair.com).
I’d like to thank my committee, the support of our sponsors and my ASHRAE friends that are making this all possible. I look forward to seeing you all in August 2009.
Jennifer Isenbeck, PE, LEED AP
