The Florida West Coast ASHRAE Chapter is pleased to host Region IV and XII CRC 2009 at the TradeWinds Island Island Grand Resort, a beach front property on St. Pete Beach. Combined with an adjacent property, Sandpiper Suites, the properties span 23 lush tropical acres, with over 700 rooms. To match our meeting theme, Sun, Sand and Sustainability, FWC ASHRAE selected TradeWinds for their Green Lodging Certification with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in recognition of efforts to protect the area’s nautral resources, reduce waste and minimize pollution. As a result of TradeWinds’ green campaign, this past year the resorts’ water consumption is down 30% and 36 tons o fnewspapers have been sent to the recycling center.
The hotel is approximately 30 minutes away from TIA (Tampa International Airport) or St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport (PIE). Studio Transportation can provide transfers, please call concierge at TradeWinds (866.403.3303) or there is an onsite Avis Car Rental (727.367.2847). For larger groups, arrangements can be made for a Super Shuttle, contact the CRC Chair if you would like further details. Taxi cab fares from the airport are about $75 one way.

The 2009 Region IV and XII CRC is listed as ASHRAE CRC in the Group Reservations Department. Reservations can be taken directly by telephone at 800-808-9833 (US and Canada). A form that can be faxed or emailed will be available shortly.

Rates quoted are net, non-commissionable and are subject to state and local taxes (currently 12%). Rooms are based on single or double occupancy, per night. Children under 18 are complimentary when sharing a room. Each additional person 18 years of age and older will be charged an additional fee of $15.00 per room, per night.

Other Accomodations:
Yes, TradeWinds Resorts can receive packages; however there are some procedures that must be followed. Please contact Jennifer Isenbeck (813.731.2203, jisenbec@admin.usf.edu) for more details. Note that packages cannot be accepted more than seven days prior to the event, there may be additional charges for storage and advance notice of 10 days prior is required.
There’s also plenty of shopping on the property or found locally. There is a public trolley that offers low priced fares from Passe-a-Grille to Clearwater Beach. In addition, there is shopping downtown St. Petersburg at BayWalk Entertainment Complex, Channelside – downtown Tampa, John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk and International Plaza located near the airport.
There are also local cruises for the boat and fish lovers and many golf courses. Once again, the concierge can offer many brochures.
There are many museums and theaters in the Tampa Bay area. Some of them are: The Florida Holocaust Museum, Florida International Museum, Salvador Dali Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Tampa Museum of Art and the Ringling Museum.
Finally, there are many, many parks and attractions including Tropicana Field – Home of the AL Champions, Tampa Bay Rays, Raymond James Stadium, Home of the Tampa Buccaneers, the Florida Aquarium, Busch Gardens, Adventure Island, Fort DeSoto Park, Lowry Park Zoo and much more!
